Hope you enjoy reading about Dawne as she talks with us today about her book "Cody's Promise"
1. Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?
I am the mother of three, one grandson and two more on the way this year. I have 13 published romance novels, eight more on contract for 2013 and I am the promotions executive for Secret Cravings publishing. I have written hundreds of online articles and lovin' every minute of my life.
2. Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Reading and cooking fill all my spare time. And I have the greatest guy in the world in my life. We are homebodies, well, I am. He loves to go out to eat and window shop. I also love watching pro football, baseball and a new interest, hockey.
3. What is your daily routine as far as when you have an idea for your story?
I work from noon until around 5pm doing promotions for Secret Cravings then the next five to ten hours I am writing and outlining new books. I am a person who needs structure, so I have to outline books and key scenes.
4. Where do you get your ideas from?
Someone once told me, my ideas come from a dark crevice of my mind. But in reality, every day life and moments that I have experienced or witnessed.
5. Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, what would be your favorite and why?
My new historical western romance series. All the books are based in 1898 Colorado. I love the 'lingo' and sweetness of the characters. I had to research their language and certain phrases. It is quite interesting. I have rediscovered my love for reading this genre too.
6. Tell us something funny about yourself that not a lot of people know about?
I am clumsy, so very clumsy and uncoordinated. I can trip over a blade of grass while barefoot, but can walk as graceful as a swan when in high heels. Not sure why that is.
7. Does any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?
No, every book has some quality of mine, Whether a physical trait or an event I experienced. It is a way for me to get the past out. Sort of like a closure moment for me.
8. Does your ‘muse’ have a name and if so what is his/her name?
No, I actually never thought about that. But when I am writing,I do talk to my dog. She listens, or at least acts like she is. I talk through story lines that I am stuck on.
9. What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?
I have written erotic, F/F, menage, M/F and now historical western. I have challenged myself and my writing over the years. As for another genre to conquer? Not at the moment. I am happiest writing sweet romance.
10. Who are your favorite authors that are out now?
Robert B Parker, Verna Clay, Stuart Woods, Dakota Cassidy and Jean C Joachim. A little suspense, some romance and all fabulous authors.
11. What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?
Finding a good balance between writing and family life. I get so lost in my work that I forget life is happening all around me. I keep odd work hours and am a loner.
12. What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?
Never quit. Never stop writing. If it is your dream, you will succeed.
13. If you hadn’t become a writer, what do you think you would be doing right now?
Eek! Not a writer/author! I'm not sure. I used to work in a library. So, I can picture myself being a librarian or a bookstore owner.
14. What do you like on a man…..briefs, boxer briefs or boxer shorts or nothing at all?
Trick question! Unfair! I pick All Of The Above. Every man's underear have a certain place in my mind.
Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?
Blurb Cody's Promise
Willow Creek, Colorado, 1898
The oldest Butler sibling, Cody, has his eye on newcomer, and saloon gal, Lydia Parsons. She is an innocent duped into a world of an unpleasant profession and he knows he needs to rescue her. He vows to help her escape her current life.
Stealing her away from the life as a saloon girl and giving her the future she deserves, Cody is shocked with her revelation. She is harboring a secret; one that will make for a ready made family.
Lydia never meant to decieve Cody, but what choice did she have? She never meant to end up in this predicament and would do anything to be Cody's wife and to find Charlie, the other male in her life.
Can Cody keep his promise to Lydia? Even after discovering her 'secret'.
Cody tightened his arms, catching Lydia's head as it bobbed against his chest and shoulder. He’d suspected she had dozed off at least fifteen minutes ago when her head cocked to the side, resting in the crook of his shoulder. The slow gait of the palomino was steady and didn't seem to disturb her slumber.
As they traveled across the prairie, the moonlight guiding them, Cody thought about the revelation about/regarding Charlie and how Lydia had been duped. That, above all of the other issues he had with Madame Love, crowned his anger.
A gentle breeze floated around them, causing Lydia's scent to pass through Cody's senses. The light essence caused a stirring deep within his body, a fervor he hadn't felt in a long time for anyone except her. His heart swelled and his stomach churned as he thought of bedding her. Sure, he had done that before, but now he wanted it to be as his wife not some woman upstairs in the saloon. The next time Cody laid a hand on Lydia, she would be his mate.
The steed continued its trek, already knowing the way to the Butler land, as Cody contemplated/envisioned his future with Lydia. Waking up early for his day while Lydia prepared a nice breakfast to start their day. In the evening when he headed back to the homestead, he pictured Lydia having dinner on the table, a bright smile on her face when she saw him. He would tell her about his day on the range as she darned the holes in his trousers. All of the laughs and moments of love they would share privately.
As the horse loped closer to home, Cody realized a grin had formed on his lips. The thoughts of sharing daily life on the ranch with Lydia made his heart well up. He couldn't wait to partake in those simple pastimes.
