Today I am happy to have Katherine Rhodes with me today giving us a taste of her latest book "Half-Soul" as well as getting to know a little bit about herself.
1. Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?
--Well, First, thank you for having me. I’m Katherine Rhodes, and that is a pen name. I write erotic romance and erotic paranormal romance under this name. I’ve been writing most of my life and there is nothing I’d rather do.
2. Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I’m sorry, spare time? Haha! Honestly, my husband and I love go out and do things. Things usually involve walking or hiking. We enjoy our little outings in places like New Hope, in Pennsylvania, and we love ‘hiking’ just about anywhere. That’s in quote because hiking to him involves putting on a pair of Timberlands and avoiding puddles. I also like to quilt and scrapbook, but it’s been a long time since I’ve had the time.
3. Where do you get your ideas from?
Wherever they want! I’ve had the come from music, from classic literature, from television. Recently I’ve had a story crop up from a random stock picture and another from a very interesting internet situation.
4. Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, which would be your favorite and why?
It’s got to be Not Quiet Juliet. Morgan’s character was hilarious, and it was just so much fun to get her into and out of trouble.
5. Are any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?
No, they are a great portion of imagination. I also use a lot of research, because imagination is good, but real life can be just much fun.
6. What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?
Well, between this pen name and my other one, there’s not much I haven’t ventured into. I will trying writing anything once. I even write white papers at work. (Which, if don’t know what they are? Be glad. I barely made it out with my eyeballs still in my head. I really wanted to gouge them out!)
7. Who are your favorite authors that are out now?
Hmm. My one clicks are Brandy L. Rivers, Staci Hart, Isobelle Cate, JR Ward, TA Grey. I love Stephen King, naturally, and—go ahead and laugh—Shakespeare. I love me some Willy! …woah, wait…
8. Who are your favorite female and male characters from your books and why?
I love Vassago, in Half-Soul. His importance to the story was an accident, but I there is something endearing about that demon. Favorite female? Well, Emmy—but I have to say that Belle from Passion Flames is so much fun.
9. What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?
Finding time to write. There’s so much else that goes into writing that it’s not just writing. I also have a full time job, so… just finding time.
10. What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?
Write. Just write. Read. Read read read. Fiction AND about your craft. And don’t give up. Keep going.
Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?
I just released Half-Soul—the first of trilogy about heaven and hell, angels and demons. It’s a paranormal erotic romance, and I had SO much fun writing it! After this, I’m back to Club Imperial—I’m working on the next story and it’s a twisty, winding tale that—I’m sorry to say—may end up as a two part novel. I can’t seem to keep my stories short!
Hell called to his soul, but his soul resisted.
Or that’s what Asher Terhune believed.
Born from the demonic seduction of his human mother, his birth destroyed her marriage. They were left with only a Guardian and Watcher to protect them from his demon heritage. Born with a half-soul, Asher quickly learned to use the Seven Deadly Sins to fill the hole inside himself.
His favorite sin was Lust.
Women had no chance of a second night with Asher, once he was done with them. And he had no intention of changing his ways. Until the sweet, calm, caring Sarah Illfrig rocked his world, and refused his bed.
Asher found her refusal unacceptable and took on the challenge of seducing her. Sarah pushed him away even as the desire she felt for him was pulling her in.
But Sarah harbored her own secrets, and when the Guardian and the Watcher found out, it became imperative to keep Sarah and Asher apart.
“Asher…” Sarah could hear the hesitation in her own voice. “Do you think we’re falling for each other because we can only feel normal around each other?”
“Not only.” Asher brushed a thumb over her cheek. “Is it part of it? Yes. But there is so much more. So much…”
“What else, Asher?”
He stared into her eyes. “You’re beautiful, intelligent, sweet, kind. You make me laugh and smile. You make me feel like I am worth more than just a prize to be won for some war I don’t understand. Even when we aren’t touching, I feel you there in my soul. You never leave my thoughts. I feel stronger and better for having you here.”
“In just two weeks?”
“Yes.” There was no doubt in his voice. “Just two weeks. I think that I only needed a day, to know that I needed a lot more time with you.”
Asher’s lips found hers and she was instantly consumed by his heat. His tongue sought hers, and she found him soft and supple and oh so sweet. His lips whispered against hers as he petted and stroked. His arm wrapped around her back, pulling her closer and the sensation of his hard muscles against her breasts was thrilling.
“I want you so much, Sarah.” His words whispered over her skin.
“We’re not here for coffee,” Sarah said. “The bedroom is down the hall on the left.”
“Sounds good.” Asher smiled.
In the next moment, Sarah found herself swept off the floor and tossed over his shoulder. She squealed in surprise, and Asher gave her ass a playful swat. The door to the bedroom was open and it was strange to see her apartment from this angle.
Asher flipped her onto the bed with as much grace as he could. Sarah had a wicked grin on her face, she could feel it. “You have too many clothes on.” Sarah nudged his belt with her shoe. “You do something to me, Asher. You’re bringing out the sex-fiend. I want to see you strip for me.”
“Oh, do you?” Asher trailed his hand up her leg, letting her go. Sarah smiled as his hands quickly unfastened the buttons of his shirt after tossing the coat on the chair. He pulled the T-shirt over his head and she was shocked that she didn’t start drooling.
Asher was perfect. Washboard abs, sculpted pecks, arms that rippled with toned muscles. She sat up and ran her hands around the bunched muscles on his sides and around to his smooth back. Sarah skimmed her fingers up to his left pectoral and traced over the scars in his skin. Asher sucked in a breath and looked down at her.
“Oh, shit, Sarah…”
“What is this?” She made her question soft and careful.
“My father’s brand. I was born with it, and it has always hurt.” He laid his hand over hers. “Until just now. Until you touched it.” He leaned down and caught her mouth with his, and the heat of the kiss seared her. “You are amazing.”
Sarah felt the same way. He was the perfect match for her soul—she hoped he was the perfect match for her heart. She smiled wickedly and unfastened the button at his waist. Hopefully, he’d also be good for her bed.
“Sly minx.” He dusted his words across her lips.
“Slow poke,” she shot back, unzipping him and dropping the pants off his ass. She grabbed two handfuls of tight, toned, tiny tush—and groaned. “Shit, that is even better than I dreamed it.”
“You dreamed about my ass?” he asked.
Sarah nodded. “I love watching you walk around.”
“Good heavens, angel. You’ve been watching me all this time?”
“I don’t know a woman who doesn’t watch you walk.” She dragged the band of his boxers down and grabbed naked flesh. “Talk about sinning.”
Asher’s hands were making deft work of the buttons on her shirt. “Sinning?”
Taking her hands off his backside, reluctantly, she leaned back so he could finish his work at her buttons. “Mm. Yes. Commandment number ten—thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s ass. And, Asher, I most assuredly covet thy ass.”
