1. Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?
First of all, Jamallah, thank you for having me as your guest.
I'm Isobelle Cate and I'm a writer of paranormal and contemporary romance. I also write historical fiction. I'm a woman who wears different masks. Mother-writer, wife-professional, scholar-novelist. Living in the United Kingdom, I have been drawn to the little known, the secret stories, about the people and the nations: the English, the Irish, the Scots, the Welsh, and those who are now part of these nations whatever their origins. My vision and passion are fuelled by my interest and background in history and paradoxically, shaped by growing up in a clan steeped in lore, loyalty, and legend. You will notice from my stories that I am intrigued by forces that simmer beneath the surface of these cultures, the hidden passions, unsaid desires, and yearnings unfulfilled. I do love myths and legends, love watching documentaries, and I do belong to a huge clan that is scattered across North America, Oceania, and Asia. Now that I'm living in the UK, add Europe.
2. Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like baking, well at least what passes as baking. Ha! As like any writer, I love reading - from the classics to the contemporary. I love swimming too. I haven't been able to do that for quite some time now. I plan to get back into it soon.
3. Where do you get your ideas from?
Anywhere. Sometimes it’s something I overhear or a situation that I’m in, a song, or even a eureka moment while walking in the park. When that happens, the what ifs start percolating in my mind.
4. Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, which would be your favorite and why?
I think it would be Rapture at Midnight, the first book of the Cynn Cruors Bloodline series because it opened a whole new world of paranormal beings for me. It was also the book where the female character has a lot of my characteristics. I think that any author’s first book will always have something akin to who s/he is in real life.
5. Does any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?
Most of it is imaginary, although the paranormal side of things comes from my innate interest in things we don’t see but know exist.
6. What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?
Maybe mystery thrillers and perhaps return to historical fiction. So far, I’ve only published one historical fiction novel and the sequel is in the shelf on my desk, waiting for me to pick it up again.
7. Who are your favorite authors that are out now?
Donna Grant and Tina Folsom are my favourites because they introduced me to the paranormal/supernatural genre. Other contemporary authors are Sable Hunter (I call her a tug-at-the-heartstrings author), Alexandra I, LP Lovell, Emma Hart, Laurelin Page, Natasza Waters, Brenda Dyer, Elaine Barris, Kallypso Masters, Katherine Rhodes and Gray Dixon (for BDSM). Honestly? The more I read other authors, the more I am in awe of all of them. If I see them, I’d be completely starstruck!
8. Who are your favorite female and male characters from your books and why?
Eirene Spence, my first female character in Rapture at Midnight because she has this kick ass attitude and because she doesn’t want people fighting or disappearing. She blames herself for the disappearance of one of the Manchester Cynn Cruors even though Finn, her mate, says she shouldn’t. You’ll just need to read Rapture at Midnight to know why. ;-)
As for the male character, hhhmmm….now that I’m starting to thresh out the world of the Cynn Cruors and with it, the reasons behind why the characters are the way they are, I have to say it’s Herod D’Argyll at the moment. Just thinking about what he has done and what will happen to him is causing a fissure to appear in my heart.
9. What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?
Hands down, it would be having to go through the gamut of emotions your characters go through to make the story believable. The highs and lows, the good and evil side of the characters can make a writer neurotic.
Seriously, I think I might just need therapy if I’m not careful. :D
10. What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?
When you embark on a writing career – whether you are a weekend, part-time, or full time writer, ask yourself these following questions:
What is my motivation to write?
Am I willing to go through this baptism of fire that might not bring in the monetary rewards I think it will bring?
Am I willing to let go of ego and lay my work at the mercy of critics – both serious and trolls (who just have nothing better to do) – learn from their comments, weeding out the malicious from the constructive, to make me a better writer?
Am I willing to sacrifice going out and having a good time to sit down and write the hours away? To spend copious amounts of time and the beverage of your choice to listen to your characters to give them flesh in your stories?
These questions are not by any means the only questions you have to ask yourself but it’s a start. If your answer is yes, then I encourage you to write to your heart’s content! Let readers from all over the world get a glimpse of your gift of using the power of words to give them hope, joy, and pleasure in between the pages of a book. J
Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?
Thank you for the chance to speak to your readers through your blog, Jamallah! It’s been an honour!
Right! Now for my recent release.
Blurb for Midnight’s Fate (Book 4, the Cynn Cruors Bloodline series)
Zac McBain is on a mission to a place that doesn’t exist - a place that disappeared thousands of years ago. The source of the Specus Argentum--the only silver that can harm the Cruors, is sought by not only Zac and the Ancients, but Dac Valerian as well.
Hidden deep in the rainforests of Honduras, the present day town of La Nahuaterique, Faith Hannah is on a mission, both humanitarian and personal. Her medical mission is prompted by her wish to escape the problems that assail her in London. She never expected to be kidnapped and discover a whole supernatural world around her own--and she certainly didn't expect to feel such a sudden, intense need and longing for one of them.
As soon as Zac sees Faith deep in the woods, he's lost to her. In the middle of a hard fought battle for the Specum Argentum, the passion fate has decreed between Zac and Faith begins to consume them.
But the impending war between the Cynn Cruor and Scatha Cruor comes to a head. Secrets are unearthed, loyalties are doubted... and love must struggle to prevail.
Zac sucked in his breath. This tempting morsel was giving herself to him, giving him permission to kiss her.
Faith wasn’t in her right frame of mind. She was dreaming, giving her permission to the lucky bastard behind her eyelids, to taste her.
“Please....” Faith’s hand trailed down his chest, lower, lower, down to rub her hand up and down his hard shaft. “I need you.”
“You don’t know what you’re saying.” Zac stilled her hand from teasing him but she kept on sliding it up and down his encased shaft. “You need to rest, Faith.”
Zac’s tenuous hold on his willpower snapped. Whether it was because he was already weak and needed sex to heal or his attraction overrode his logic he didn’t care. He wanted her.
He desired her.
He took her mouth in a primal kiss, his tongue swiping against her teeth before parting them to tease her tongue. Zac’s blood roared and rejoiced, Faith moaned, her body arching toward him, her breasts pressed to his chest in offering. His kiss demanded that she give in and she did, the sounds she made spurring his lust. He held the back of her neck keeping her head still so he could devour her. Even in her sleep her tongue tangled with his and explored his mouth. She tasted sweet, hot, and Zac could smell her liquid heat.
Slowly he covered her body with his, nudging her legs apart to graze his painfully hard cock against her mound. She lifted her legs, whimpering as she moved her hips to grind against him to position her core against his shaft.
“More,” she whispered against his mouth.
Zac thrust against her jeans encased sex.
Desire became his blood. He had to taste her, needed her like a man starved of water. He grazed his teeth against her jaw before nipping on her earlobe. When she gasped, he sucked the sting flicking the flesh with his tongue.
“Off...” she gasped.
Zac did as she asked. He rose to kneel in front of her. He took her shirt off, threw it to the side of the cot and leaned forward to graze his mouth against her breasts. Then he took one nipple into his mouth and sucked on it, hard, while his hand played with the other. She cried out, tangling her fingers in his hair. Then he lavished her other breast with the same attention. His tongue loved the feel of the hardened nubs grazing his taste buds, enjoyed the taste of her delicately salty skin, salivated for more of her. The smell of her skin, her sweat was intoxicating, her gentle musk bringing the sweet scent of her blood into his nostrils. His palm went lower, caressing her as he moved to the dip of her waist, the gentle valley of her stomach, and the feminine swell of her hips. Ancients! She was so responsive. He smiled against her hardened peaks when her hips bucked.
Her jeans had to go.
Deftly, Zac undid the button of her waistband, pulled the zipper down and dipped his fingers into her wetness. He inhaled sharply and groaned. The scent of her arousal enveloped him, strengthening his senses, feeding the Kinaré, igniting his passion. His mouth watered when his thumb found her sweet spot bathing it more with her cream. He circled it before inserting his third finger inside her sex. He made a sound at the back of his throat when her vagina squeezed his digit. His cock was jealous and wanted in but Zac didn’t listen even though his shaft was in pain and wanted to shoot its load. He inserted another finger.
“Oh God, yes!” Faith clung to him as she bucked her hips in tandem with his hand. Her eyes were still closed tight, her breath coming out in short sexy puffs. “Almost there....”
Zac flicked his fingers inside her before taking them out and thrusting them back in. He felt her climax coming, her channel tightening in response to his finger fucking her. But there was something he needed to do. Wanted to do.
He leaned back to remove her jeans taking her panties off with it before settling between her legs. Her smell nearly drove him to his own climax, feeling his pre-cum trickling from his cock. His fingers were coated with her cream, her pussy glistening in invitation. He swiped his tongue against her clit. She shuddered. His body immediately absorbed her essence. His growl of satisfaction at the same time he laved his tongue against her folds from top to bottom approving her moans. He licked between her folds taking her bundle of nerves gently sucking it before inserting his tongue inside her hole. Zac gripped her thighs digging into her flesh while he lapped up her sweetness. He closed his eyes, his lust flaring when she held on to his head holding on to his hair while she humped his mouth. He loved the way she held his head pushing his mouth away from her mound when she had too much but still coming back for more. He gave her what she wanted.
She gave him what he needed.
Then Zac placed his fingers inside her and sucked her clit at the same time.
She came with a keening cry flooding Zac’s mouth with herself. Pleasure like nothing he ever felt before flowed through him. He felt gratified that he had brought her ecstasy. Her body trembled from her orgasm and he continued licking her dry until she came back from the clouds. Zac made his way up her body, licking the salt from her sweat, flicking her hardened peaks before kissing her deeply, making her taste herself on his tongue.
“Thank you,” he whispered.
Then he was gone.
