I had the pleasure of meeting KJ Montgomery at the 1st Romance Novel Convention in Las Vegas and I'm glad I went and got the chance to meet her for she is a gem amongst gems.
I'm happy to have her here with us talking about her book Trove.
1. Before we start talking about your book, why don’t you tell everybody a little bit about yourself?
By day I am an accountant and by night I let my fingers and my imagination sweep me into worlds I create. I am lucky enough to be able to listen to audio books during the day, which I am sure keeps me sane as well as entertained. J
2. Besides writing, what other things do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Love star gazing; crocheting; sewing; going out with my friends.
3. Where do you get your ideas from?
Anywhere and everywhere. I tend to write the books that I want to read so they are often laced with tantalizing tidbits of history or glimpses into mysteries for which solutions are yet to be found. In case you couldn’t tell, I love books that make me think!
4. Out of all of the stories you’ve written so far, which would be your favorite and why?
I have to say my Katie Walsh Mysteries may always be my favorite. And not just because they are my first but because those stories meld facts, fiction, and what-ifs into tales that will make the reader wonder what history really means.
5. Are any of the stories you’ve written based on real life experiences or basically just from imagination?
I rely on real life and then mix it up with my imagination. I like to take the reader on a page-turning adventure that brings them deep into my book world.
6. What other genre besides the one you are writing about now would you like to venture into writing?
I have a WIP that is romantic suspense and another that would fall under the adventure/thriller category. I read multi-genres so I guess I’m not surprised that I write across genres too!
7. Who are your favorite authors that are out now?
I love Kelsey Cole’s Immortal series. She infuses such humor into dark characters and situations. I listen to her books on audio and Robert Petkoff does such an amazing job or differentiating the characters. I also enjoy Lara Adrian’s Breed series. But I read new Indie authors as well as established ones. The Indies offer new spins on many stories. Many are truly a breath of fresh air.
8. Who are your favorite female and male characters from your books and why?
Katie Walsh from The Katie Walsh Mysteries and Miranda from the Distracted by Destiny series are my favorites. Both are strong women, but far from perfect. They face challenges that knock them down, but never for long as get back up and brush themselves off.
Willie Jones from The Katie Walsh Mysteries is a favorite of mine. Physically he is built much like you’d envision a bodyguard. As a matter of fact, he is that and sooooo much more. There are layers to this giant that will be explored over the series, leading readers to wonder “just who is Willie Jones?”
9. What do you think is the hardest thing about being a writer?
The solitude and finding time to write are the biggest obstacles for me. I work full-time during the week. I leave the house around 6 am and return a little after 6 pm. It definitely is challenging!
10. What advice would you give someone who wants to start off being a writer?
You need to have a love of writing not because you seek fame and fortune (though that would be nice), but because the urge is a fundamental part of your identity. It has to be in your soul.
Well now that we got the question and answer out of the way…..why don’t you tell us about your latest story you have out now?
Trove - The Katie Walsh Mysteries, Book 1 is a blend of Ancient Aliens, Romancing the Stone, and National Treasure. This first in a series will take the reader on a page-turning adventure.
